All are Welcome to Belong and Become
I was
glad
when
they said
to me,
"Let us
go up
to the
house
of the
LORD."
Psalm 122:1
"Icons are not simply beautiful works of art which have certain aesthetic and didactic functions. They are primarily the means through which we experience the reality of the Heavenly Kingdom on earth. The holy icons enshrine the immeasurable depth of the mystery of Christ's incarnation." (orthodoxinfo.com/general/orthodoxy.aspx)
"An icon is an encounter between the person represented and the viewer. One gazing at an icon is drawn into communion and relationship with the person represented, who gazes back at the viewer."
To work on an icon, is a sacred privilege, and it is an act of prayer. Thus, each day of the workshop will begin with prayer. You are invited to participate in the divine dialogue between God's Kingdom and human understanding through an encounter with Jesus Christ in the unfolding of His image before you.
Our instructor is Kathy Sievers of Elizabeth The Wonderworker Studio.
She is an iconographer from Oregon with extensive experience in both the writing of icons as well as teaching iconography students. Our rector, The Rev. Dr. Kathryn White, has studied with Kathy in January of both 2010 and 2011. You are invited to participate in the divine dialogue between God's Kingdom and human understanding through an encounter with Jesus Christ in the unfolding of His image before you.
October is a wonderful month on the prairie, and the Christ Campus Spirituality Center is pleased to host these retreats. Persons of all denominations are invited to participate.

Four Day Workshop
The four day workshop begins with dinner on Saturday, and ends after lunch on Tuesday. On Saturday and Sunday the students will transfer the drawing of the face of Mother of God onto a gesso panel. Working with traditional egg tempera, each student will write the image. Tuesday morning will provide an opportunity to have the icons blessed in the context of the celebration of the Holy Eucharist.
Participants will complete a 5 x 7 icon of the face of Mother of God $450, includes room, board, manual, and supplies, including 23.5 carot gold leaf for the halo.
Nine Day Workshop
Thursday Dinner through Lunch on Friday.
Participants will learn iconography from the preparation of the panel, the use of traditional gesso, the geometric analysis of an icon, and the writing of the icon with egg tempera and traditional pigments. Partipants will first study the geometry of the Mother of God, transfer their drawing to the gesso board, and then complete the icon using traditional meathods and materials.
$900 includes room, board, panel, 23.5 carot gold leaf for the halo, manual, and some supplies. See Supply List for materials that each participant is to bring to the workshop.
Iconography Retreat registration is open. A $100 deposit will hold a space for you, refundable up to 90 days prior to class. Each class is limited to ten participants.
